Pros & Cons of Smart Thermostats

B.33 Smart Thermostats.
Have you heard the talk around town on the latest and greatest technology to the HVAC world?  Smart thermostats are growing in popularity!  If you’ve heard of this new piece of technology, but aren’t sure if it’s right for you we’ll break down the pros and cons to help you feel more comfortable with your decision:

What is a smart thermostat?
Great question! …how is it different from a standard thermostat? Another great question! A smart thermostat is actually capable of a lot more programing features as compared to an older model. Smart thermostats have a sleeker look, front faced lit display screen, can help you save money/energy, and will make your life easier!

Pros:
Remote access
: one of the biggest pros of a smart thermostat is the ability to adjust the temperature of your home while you are away.  This can be a huge cost saver for times you are not in the home to enjoy the heat while at work or out for an extended time.  This can also come in handy if you are too cold to move out from under a blanket! Just simply reach for your phone and kick the heat up from a special app! How snazzy is that?!
Programmable: another huge benefit is the ability to program the temperature down to the hour, for weekend settings, and for scheduled vacations.  This can all be done through your thermostat screen or as mentioned before through your smart phone!
Various useful features: other pros of smart thermostats include—notifications when your maintenance is needed, alerts when it’s time to change the filter, and the ability to monitor your energy consumption. Life is busy…your smart thermostat will help!

Cons:
Initial cost
: because smart thermostats are capable of so much more they will be more expensive.  Don’t let that discourage you—the list of pros is key!
Installation: with a smart thermostat also comes the cost of installation.  You should definitely call a trusted technician to install this special type of thermostat to ensure it works properly.
Technology: any type of new technology can be difficult to grasp at first. Remain calm…ask a trusted HVAC professional for help…and you’ll be on your way to becoming a smart thermostat guru!
